Protecting Individual Rights
Make sure every person in our community is protected:
-
Ensure that our local police and agencies are not used as tools of federal immigration enforcement against our neighbors
-
Consolidate Hawaii's scattered immigration protections into a single, airtight law that is harder to challenge in court
-
Pass one strong, clear law that protects immigrants from being turned over to federal immigration authorities without due process
Why is this on my platform?
Our district is home to families from the Marshall Islands, Samoa, Tonga, the Philippines, China, Mexico, and so many other places. Many of our neighbors live with fear — fear that they or someone they love could be taken away. Right now, Hawaii has tried to protect immigrants through dozens of small, separate laws that can be picked apart one by one. I want to replace that patchwork with one strong law that actually holds up — so our community can live without fear.
